Three wings. Fifty nationalities. A Forum space.

Nuno Gonçalves is one of Lisbon’s most multicultural schools. In our proposal, the Student Forum is positioned as the central hub of this upcoming Knowledge Campus. The Forum is designed to be a space for both learning and socialising, acting as the core of the school’s programme, divided across three wings.

The project envisions a civic and inclusive building, an innovative multicultural campus grounded in principles of structural modularity, circular economy, and a strong emphasis on outdoor spaces.

ESCOLA 3.50.1

Challenging students and teachers to explore alternative pedagogies outside the classroom, the project incorporates a variety of experimental indoor and outdoor learning spaces, fostering new forms of interaction and teaching.

The new extensions offer a contemporary interpretation of the original 1950s buildings, constantly referencing their proportions and façade rhythm, with the new massing acting as structural anchor to the existing building structure.

The roof of the sunken sports hall acts as an extension to the external side of the Forum, granting flexible outdoor space and a new games area, which can also double as an open-air classroom.
